Reasons for Entering Local Business Awards

Brad Golchin is an Auckland based Accountant and self-confessed IT geek. His business Wise Advice is the only accounting firm in Auckland that has made it to finals of Westpac Auckland Business Awards this year.

WABA is Auckland’s premiere annual small business awards hosted in conjunction with the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. It is open to all types of businesses across all sectors. A business can enter a maximum of 3 categories, and this year Wise Advice was selected as a finalist in all 3 :

Excellence in Customer Service

Excellence in Marketing

Excellence in International Trade

International trade is an unusual category for an accountant – up against manufacturers and exporters but Golchin has big plans for his firm and has taken it off shore – exporting his accounting services across the ditch to Australia.

Brad Golchin explains why he thinks entering your local business awards is not only beneficial but should be part of your company’s strategic and marketing plan:

– Completing the application is an opportunity to step back and think about where your business is going and how far it has come. The opportunity to assess and review your business is really valuable!  Often you can come up with ideas for improvement for next year’s business awards, e.g. you may start requesting feedback or measuring key performance indicators.

Invaluable feedback – Hear what judges say, learn from their experience. Judges have been selected for a reason, usually vast business management or consulting experience. Even if you are not a finalist you can still take something away. Your business will come out better because of going through the process.

Networking with your local business community. A chance to meet other business owners who are at the top of their game. Raise your profile in your local region.

Marketing -  awesome marketing opportunity, often free. Add it to your marketing plan! Results are usually published in the local newspaper as well as social media – Twitter and Facebook have been going crazy since the WABA finalist announcement. Provides great content and photos for your social media sites and blogs.

Opportunity to celebrate, nothing brings a team together like success – it’s a great team building activity! Staff proud of the company they work for – happy to be part of the success story! Thank them – reward them!

Of course recognition always great to have someone else endorse your business,

– if you are nominated as a finalist or better yet a winner!
